How to Migrate from Dynamic to Static User Macros

To convert user macros currently implemented as dynamic to static, follow one of the two methods described below. These approaches ensure that previously added macros on Confluence pages continue to function without manual updates.

Option 1: Export, Edit, and Reimport

  1. Exporting
    Go to the Admin page → Select a macro or macros → Export.

  1. Editing
    Open the JSON file and locate the "macroType" field.
    Change its value from:

    "macroType": "dynamic"

    to:

    "macroType": "static"

  2. Deleting
    Go back to the Admin page and delete the original macro or macros.

  1. Importing
    Import the updated JSON file.
    During import, select Keep original macro key.
    This ensures existing pages using the macro won't break.

Option 2: Duplicate and Replace

    On the Admin page, click Copy in Actions.

  1. Edit the name and key
    Update both to match the original macro's name and key.

  1. Delete the original macro
    Before saving, delete the original macro in a separate tab.
    Confluence doesn't allow duplicate names or keys.

  2. Save the new static macro
    After deletion, return to the edited copy and click Save.
    Your static macro now replaces the original, keeping its references.
